The Carlsbad Unified school board approved the district's first-ever ethnic studies class last week, but not without removing mentions of institutional racism and 'white Eurocentric dominant culture' from the course description after several people complained about them. The conflict in Carlsbad Unified, a suburban North County district with about 11,000 students, is yet another battle brewing over how schools are teaching kids about race and racial inequality.
